(SUB),

of the tights derived under the contract.

Under these conditions, I take the liberty to

submit to you an apro imate note of the lose and damages

suffered and of the compensation which is wue through the

resciaion of that contract, and which I have tried to form

in accordance with equity and the data found in our ac-

counts.

In that memorandum, I have also considered the

value represented by the life of the passengers who aled

on board by reason of their prolonged detention, and which

have given rise to other claims on the part of the families

who demand pecuniary compensation for those doathe in view

of the poverty in which thogɛe families are left.

For

a similar resson I set forth the amounts which are justly

due to the passengers by way of compensation for the time

lost, and also for the remuneration which they would have

obtained by their lawful work.

I do not trouble you with legal details or the

moral and economifal arguments which you well know, in or-

der to obtain a decision in my favour, but I must in any

case inform you that I am entirely disposed to give you the

details which you may desire, whenever you ask for them.

Awaiting your orders, I have the honour etc.
